2023 NFL Draft – 3rd Round – Kansas City Chiefs

O-line U sees its next lineman go to the pros. With the 92nd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs select Sooner offensive tackle Wanya Morris.

Wanya joins fellow Sooner Creed Humphrey in Kansas City. Wanya will add to the Chief’s offensive line, tasked with protecting NFL MVP and future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Wanya spent two seasons in Norman after transferring from the University of Tennessee, where he was an All-SEC Freshman offensive tackle. While in Norman, Wanya was a two-year contributor on the offensive line. During his 2022 season, Wanya earned 2nd team All-Big 12 honors after a stellar season at right tackle.

Wanya is a “pro-ready” lineman, like most Bill Bedenbaugh products. He is known for his aggressiveness and ‘nasty’ attitude up front. Morris is a highly effective run blocker and displays excellent finishing capabilities, an attribute highly sought after in linemen.

Morris has an opportunity to be an early contributor in Kansas City. He will compete for a starting position on an already stacked Chiefs offensive line. Morris has the athleticism to play on either side of the line; however, I see him finding a quicker home on the right side, opposite of Chiefs left tackle Jawaan Taylor.

The Oklahoma Sooners see their third player drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and expect to see many more go off the board in the next four rounds. O-line-U adds to its impressive list of offensive line pro’s as well. I hope, and expect, to see Morris have a long NFL career in Kansas City. His attitude, size, and aggressive nature will earn him big bucks in the pros.

Good luck in the league Wanya, we can’t wait to watch you work.
