Defensive Line

The Sooners are positioned well with their defensive line recruitment. The Sooners rank high with seven of the nation’s top defensive line recruits.

Current 5-star and top-10 overall talent, DT Williams Nwaneri (Lees Summit, MO) ranks the Sooners football program in his top-3 schools. Some experts believe Nwaneri has the Sooners as his top program. Nwaneri is considered the next P.J. Adebawore due to his physical talent and Kansas City pipeline connection. His most recent visit was to Tennessee, and many feel the Sooners program did nothing but increase following this trip to Knoxville. It would be safe to say the Sooners are leading in the Williams Nwaneri race. He has an official visit scheduled with the Sooners in June. The recruitment of Nwaneri is the Sooners’ coaching staff’s top priority.

Oklahoma native and current IMG Academy 5-star DT David Stone is the Sooners’ 2nd leading defensive tackle recruit. Stone has Oklahoma in his official top-5, and many experts believe Oklahoma is in his top 2, along with Michigan State. Unofficial reports have also come out this last week speculating that Stone may return to the State of Oklahoma for his senior high school football season, which would only help the Sooners. Stone is a dominant defensive tackle and would immediately impact Sooner’s defensive line.

Durant, Oklahoma’s Xadavien Sims ranks near the top of the Sooners’ recruiting board, and the Sooners are reciprocated on his. Sims recently shrunk his recruitment list down, and the Sooners made the cut. Sims seem to take his time finalizing his recruitment; however, many feel the Sooners will be his school of choice. Michigan State is running a tight race with Sims, and many feel this will come down to signing day Sims, being the top State defensive recruit for the Sooners, should fare well in his recruitment. In 15 of the past 21 years, the Sooners have signed the State’s number one recruit, hopefully, Sims will be the 16th.
