Joe Mixon was one of Sooner football’s most highly-anticipated prospects of the post-2000 era. Coming out of high school, Mixon was a composite 5-star recruit and the 13th-ranked overall player in the nation, according to 247Sports.

The Army All-American running back came to Norman from Freedom High School in Oakley, California. Mixon rushed for over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns in just two seasons in Norman. He was also an all-purpose back, hauling in 65 receptions for 894 yards and 9 touchdowns.

In 2016, Mixon set the OU single-season record for all-purpose yards with 2,331 and all-purpose yards per game with 194, according to SoonerSports.com. Mixon ranks 3rd all-time in Sooner running back receiving yardage and 4th in career running back receptions. Mixon was selected as the 43rd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he is a team captain.

So far in his NFL career, Mixon has amassed 5,378 rushing yards, 40 rushing touchdowns, 231 receptions for 1,763 yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns. He was also selected to his first Pro Bowl team in 2021. Mixon was a dynamic back who could break open a 70-yard score at any moment. His considerable big play ability was evident, and his shiftiness was a dynamic rarely seen in college football history.
