All-time lists are a common source of debate, and this one will be no different. Since the 2000 National Championship season, the Oklahoma football Sooners have seen their fair share of top-tiered talent come to Norman.
With the Team 129 recruiting season beginning to heat up, now is the time to look back and rank the Sooner football program’s top-ten recruits since 2000. Hopefully, we can add new names to the list the next time an article like this is written.
Before we get started, let’s discuss the criteria. It would be too easy to scroll through old recruiting database systems and list all 5-star recruits who signed with the Sooners. It would also be too easy to walk into the Switzer Center, write down all national award winners on a list, and call it good. So, for a recruit to be added to this prestigious list, they must have met two criteria.
First, they had to have been highly touted recruits. Spoiler alert: Baker Mayfield won’t make this list since he wasn’t a Sooner signee out of high school and wasn’t highly rated (not our fault). The second criterion is that the recruit must’ve had success in Norman. Just because the Sooners signed a 5-star talent doesn’t automatically qualify him for this list; he had to have panned out. Now that the ground rules have been laid out, let’s start at number 10.
