The Oklahoma football program may not have any commitments for 2024, but they do have one for 2025.

On Monday, the Sooners received a verbal commitment from 2025 quarterback prospect Kevin Sperry out of Rock Hill High School in Prosper, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas.

Although the 6-foot, 1-inch dual-threat prospect just completed his sophomore season, Sperry has been on the radar of a number of major programs, including Florida State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, TCU, Tennessee and others.

He attended an on-campus football camp at Oklahoma last June, where he was able to begin building a relationship with Sooner offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who immediately impressed with what he saw from the future recruit.

The book on Sperry, who is not yet rated by any of the major college recruiting services but is believed to easily be a four-star when the evaluations come down, is a quarterback with a strong arm who can throw with accuracy downfield and hit intermediate throws as well, but his dual ability as a run threat is what makes him a good fit in Lebby’s OU offense.

Sperry received his scholarship offer from Oklahoma just last Thursday.

Immediately, I felt a spirt there that just took over my feelings about the place,” Sperry told 247Sports OU insider Brandon Drumm. “I think the difference was the culture that Coach (Brent) Venables has created there.”

With 5-star 2023 QB Jackson Arnold already on the roster and the strong likelihood that 4-star 2024 recruit Michael Hawkins will commit to OU (he is scheduled to announce his decision between OU and TCU on April 8), the Sooners appear to be set at quarterback for the immediate future.
