Oklahoma basketball: Buddy Hield finishes 2nd in NBA All-Star 3-point contest

Former Oklahoma basketball star Buddy Hield finished in second place in the 2022 NBA three-point shooting contest on Saturday night as part of NBA All-Star weekend.
Hield and his Indiana Pacers NBA teammate Tyrese Haliburton advanced out of the first round, which featured eight current NBA long-range shooting artists, along with Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Lillard went on to win this year’s contest, accumulating 27 points in the final round to best Hield with 25. Haliburton finished third with 17 points.
Hield, an All-American and college player of the year while playing at Oklahoma, was appearing in his third three-point shooting contest. The former Sooner won the three-point contest in 2020.
Earlier this week, Hield, the NBA leader in made three-point field goals this season broke Reggie Miiler’s Indiana season three-point record for made three-balls. Miller’s record had stood since the 1996-97 season.
Hield also is the career leader at Oklahoma in three-point shooting. He made 349 three-balls in four seasons at OU (2012-16) and was successful in 39 percent of this three-point attempts. His senior season in 2016, Hield led the Sooners to an NCAA Final Four appearance.
Hield is in his seventh NBA season. He was a first-round selection, the sixth player taken overall, in the 2016 NBA Draft. He was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans but traded later that year to the Sacramento Kings. Hield played parts of six seasons five and a half seasons in Sacramento before he was traded to Indiana late last season.
The former Sooner star is averaging 17.4 points a game this season and is averaging 16.1 points for his NBA career.
