The men’s Oklahoma basketball team didn’t make it easy for 14th-ranked Baylor before falling 82-72 in Waco on Wednesday.

Baylor led for all but the first couple of minutes in the game and 10 seconds in the second half, but OU was in the game throughout. The 10-point winning margin did not come about until the final two minutes of the contest, when the 14th-ranked Bears outscored the Sooners 9-4 to close out the win.

Oklahoma gave everything it had and keep fighting to the end, but Baylor is just a little more talented and athletic than the Sooner and the Bears made the shots they need to down the stretch.

The Sooners (12-12, 2-9) suffered their sixth straight conference defeat and seventh straight loss to Baylor in Waco.

The road doesn’t get any easier for Porter Moser and crew with eighth-ranked Kansas coming to Norman on Saturday.

Four main takeaways from a tough Oklahoma loss at Baylor

  • Grant Sherfield again led Oklahoma with 15 points, but the real story for Sooner fans was the contribution from true freshmen Milos Uzan and Oweh Otega, who had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Otega also had six rebounds, including two offensive boards.
  • OU has been looking for scoring production from anyone not named Grant Sherfield, and the Sooners had three other players score in double figures against Baylor. In addition to Sherfield, Uzan andOtega, reserve Joe Bamisile had a season-high 10 points.
  • The Sooners shot 48 percent for the game compared to 46 percent for Baylor, but also shot 14 fewer free throws. Baylor outscored Oklahoma 19-6 from the free-throw line.
  • OU scored 38 of its 72 points in the paint area; Baylor had 20 points in the paint. The Sooners also had 15 fast-break points to nine for Baylor.
