By Chip Rouse
While the Sooner men were fighting a losing battle at Oklahoma State on Wednesday, the Oklahoma basketball women were experiencing the opposite effect of a dominant 93-66 road win over TCU.
No slow start to worry about this time out as the 15th-ranked Lady Sooners opened up the game on a 12-0 run and charged out to a 34-13 margin after the first 10 minutes. The game was effectively over at halftime with Oklahoma holding a commanding 59-32 advantage.
Madi Williams’ game-high 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting led five Sooners who scored in double figures. Ana Llanusa had 17 points and Liz Scott posted her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Oklahoma shot 54 percent for the game and a blistering 50 percent (10 of 20) from behind the three-point line.
It wasn’t all about offense, though, as the Sooners also played solid defense, holding the home-team Horned Frogs to 35-percent shooting and just 20 percent on three-point tries (4 of 20).
It was the Lady Sooners’ fourth consecutive win and improved their overall record to 15-2. The OU win, coupled with a Texas loss at Texas Tech, gives the Sooners sole possession of first place in the Big 12 with a 5-1 record.
Next action for the Oklahoma women will be at home on Saturday night facing Bedlam rival Oklahoma State (9-2, 3-3).
