Oklahoma basketball senior Madi Williams is the Big 12 Women’s Player of the Week for Week 8 of the college basketball season.

Williams, Oklahoma’s leading scorer on the season and No. 3 in the Big 12, led the Sooners to a 95-79 win over Florida last week in the inaugural Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Williams scored 22 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and garnered five steals in the win as the Sooners’ improved their season record to 10-1 as they head into Big 12 play. Her double-double against Florida was the 25th in her career and the 22 points were her second-most this season. Williams scored 25 in a game earlier in the season against SMU

A week ago, the Sooner star went over 2,000 points for her career and became the eighth OU women to reach the 2,000 level in points scored for a career.

Williams, a two-time unanimous All-Big 12 First-Team selection, is averaging 16.5 points a game this season. Along with the scoring production, she also averages 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

This is the fourth time during her five seasons at OU that Williams has been named Player of the Week in the conference. This is the first time, however, that an Oklahoma women’s player has been so honored.

Bailey Maupin of Texas Tech joined OU’s Williams in receiving Week 8 Big 12 honors. Maupin was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.

The Lady Sooners return to action on Saturday in OU’s Big 12 season opener at West Virginia. Their Big 12 home opener at Lloyd Noble Center is next Tuesday, Jan. 3.
