Thursday was a big day for Patty Gasso and Oklahoma softball.
The Sooner softball coach was one of eight new members inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
In 28 seasons as head coach of Sooner softball, Gasso has compiled an overall record of 1,395-344-2 at OU, a remarkable .801 winning percentage. That record includes six national championships, including back-to-back national titles in each of the past two seasons. The Sooners are one of only three college programs to win more than two national championships.
Under Gasso, Oklahoma has made 15 Women’s College World Series appearances and has appeared in the postseason in each of her 28 seasons at OU.
Oklahoma has been Big 12 regular-season champion in softball in each of the past 10 seasons and has 14 conference titles in all. Gasso’s 367 Big 12 wins are the most of any softball coach in Big 12 history, and she has more than twice as many wins as any other softball coach in the school’s history.
Under Gasso’s leadership, Oklahoma softball has risen to be recognized as one of the top softball programs in the nation.
Gasso is already a member of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame (2019) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2021).
The Oklahoma Hall of Fame honors outstanding individuals in all disciplines within the state of Oklahoma. Gasso is just the eighth collegiate coach, and the first female coach, to receive the highest individual honor the state can bestow and the 23rd sports figure in the 95-year history of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
The eight-member class was formally inducted Thursday night at the Cox Business Convention Center in Tulsa.
