Senior wide receiver Drake Stoops, son of former Oklahoma football head coach Bob Stoops, has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The Campbell Trophy, first awarded in 1990, is presented every year to the college football player who represents the best combination of academics, community service and on-field performance. Stoops is one of eight other Big 12 student-athletes who remain candidates for the award.
Stoops is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First-Team selection. In addition, the Sooner wide receiver has made the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll all eight of his completed semesters and was named to the OU President’s Honor Roll in the spring of 2022 with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Regarding his community service activities, Stoops was selected by the OU coaches and his teammates to serve on the Oklahoma Football Leadership Council. In that role he helps bridge communication between the players and the coaching staff. He has volunteered at the OU Children’s Hospital since 2019, where he participates in the Art for the Heart program.
He has begun working with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program in the Norman area and for three years worked as a volunteer at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Stoops walked on to the Oklahoma football program in 2018 and redshirted that season. He is believed to be the first Sooner true freshman to walk on and catch two passes in his first career game. In five seasons at Oklahoma, Stoops has appeared in 40 games, including 10 starts. He has 49 catches for 611 yards and five touchdowns.
