By Chip Rouse
The men’s Oklahoma basketball team will open the 2022-23 Big 12 schedule with back-to-back home games against Red River rival Texas and Iowa State.
The Sooners revealed the entire conference schedule on Friday. This completes the 2023-23 schedule for Oklahoma. The nonconference schedule of games was announced in August.
OU will open Big 12 play on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, hosting the Longhorns. The following Wednesday, Iowa State comes to Norman.
In addition to the Saturday Big 12 season opener with Texas, the Sooners have four additional Saturday games at home on this season’s schedule (West Virginia on Jan. 14, Baylor on Jan. 21, Kansas Feb. 11 and TCU March 11).
Oklahoma’ final road game of the season will be March 1 at Kansas State before closing out the regular season at home on March 4 against TCU. For the complete Big 12 schedule for OU, click here.
Porter Moser begins his second season as Oklahoma head coach with another strong nonconference schedule. The Sooners will play 12 nonconference games before beginning Big 12 play at the end of December. Seven of the nonconference games will be in Norman.
The nonconference schedule includes a Thanksgiving holiday tournament in Orlando, the ESPN Events Invitational, where OU will face former Big 12 foe Nebraska in the opening round on Nov. 24 followed by either Memphis or Seton Hall the day after. The Sooners and Nebraska have not played since 2011. OU owns a 104-83 record in the all-time series.
Florida State, Ole Miss, Siena and Stanford are on the other side of the bracket in that tournament.
On Dec. 3, Oklahoma will travel to Philadelphia for a matchup with Villanova as part of the Big 12/Big East Challenge.
The Sooners will host Alabama this year, on Jan. 28, in the Big 12 challenge series with teams in the SEC.
Oklahoma is coming off a 19-16 season in Moser’s inaugural season at OU. The Sooners were 7-11 in the Big 12.
Oklahoma opens up the 2022-23 season on Nov. 7 against Sam Houston.
