Oklahoma football: Ranking Sooners’ six biggest remaining games of 2022 season
By Chip Rouse
6 — Oct. 27 @ Iowa State
The Sooners and Iowa State meet in a rare Thursday night game at Iowa State. OU has won five of the last seven games between the two teams and is 78-7-2 all-time against the Cyclones. Although Oklahoma holds an overwhelming advantage in the all-time series, Iowa State has been an especially tough place to play in the Matt Campbell coaching era.
The Cyclones lose a lot of offensive firepower from a year ago with All-American RB Breec Hall, QB Brock Purdy and TE Charlie Kolar heading to the NFL. The Sooners also lost some of their key players on offense and defense from last season following the coaching departure of Lincoln Riley but are probably stronger talent-wise that ISU that is being forced to reload and rebuild in some key positions.
This is one of those potential trap games that the Sooners need to be mindful of, but OU will have 10 days to prepare for the Cyclones with a bye week after its Oc. 22 game with Kansas.
