With a 22-member 2022 recruiting class and 13 additional players picked up from the transfer portal, almost one-third of the Oklahoma football roster for the coming season is made up of newcomers.

Periodically into the summer months, we will introduce you to these new faces. Today we introduce incoming freshman OL Jacob Sexton from Deer Creek High in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Okpreps kid was a unanimous four-star prospect in the 2023 class.

Who is Jacob Sexton

Jacob Sexton is a 6-foot 6-inch 310-pound offensive lineman from Edmond, Oklahoma. Sexton was heavily recruiting and chose Oklahoma over the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, and Texas A&M. Sexton was a multiple sport athlete at Deer Creek; he participated in wrestling and track and field. He was named the offensive lineman of the year in the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference and played a big role in his high school team making it to the Oklahoma 6A-II State Championship game.

What we are hearing in regards to Depth Chart and Impact for OU

Sexton is Schmidty built already as a young true freshman, he looks the part and put on about 30 pounds since joining the Oklahoma program. He has turned heads in camp, and continued to be a name we hear mentioned at both guard and tackle as a guy the Sooners would confident to plug in if need be. Jacob is one of those guys who will likely not be a starter this year, but if an injury occurs could step right in, and play at either guard spot or right tackle in a pinch. He has gotten the vote of confidence from head coach Brent Venables, to be sure.

Scouting

The best way to describe Jacob Sexton is a long, athletic, and powerful human being. His tape is outstanding. His wrestling background is also apparent as he uses leverage well, and technique-wise is ahead of most players at his age. He can pull in the run game from the tackle spot and has the size and nasty streak to play guard as well. He is a guy who I expect to play some for Oklahoma this fall, and develop long-term into a high-round NFL draft pick. Jacob does a great job at finishing his blocks at the line of scrimmage and carrying himself to the next level of the defense to make another impact block. Sexton is a name Sooner nation needs to get familiar with!
