Many walk-ons had fulfilled their dreams at Oklahoma, and Gavin Freeman could be next in line. The Heritage Hall product bet on himself when accepting a walk-position in the Oklahoma football program rather than staying committed to Texas Tech.

There’s been notable noise surrounding Freeman at camp and positive words from the Oklahoma coaching staff. We know the dynamic weapons at receiver with Marvin Mims, Theo Wease, Jalil Farooq, and freshmen receivers Jayden Gibson and Nic Anderson. A name that hasn’t been included frequently in the receiving core, Gavin Freeman, who may find his way in the Oklahoma offense and make his impact proclaimed in special teams.

“There’s no place I’d rather be,” Gavin said. “OU has got everything I want.”

Freeman was one of the most dynamic high school players in Oklahoma in 2021 and is known for his blow-by speed, which he showed night and day at Heritage Hall. The Preferred-Walk on runs a 4.42 40 and a 10.8 100 mm dash at Heritage Hall.

Brent Venables spoke high on freshmen Gavin Freeman when talking about the strong receiving core:

“Young kid Freeman has been doing what he did all summer as well,”

Freeman, a Sooner fan since early childhood, wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. Jason Freeman was a member of the Oklahoma Football team from 1995-1998 while playing tight end for the Sooners.

When talking about Heritage Hall football, the two names that pop into your head are Wes Welker and Sterling Sheppard. Welker was a Texas Tech star and had a very successful career in the NFL. Just like his father Derrick, Sheppard made his name known in Norman. Sheppard ended his Sooner career with 3,482 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

Now, Gavin Freeman has a chance to join the past two elite Heritage Hall products and make a significant impact at the Power-5 level.

The Sooners are deep at the wide receiver position but don’t be surprised if Freeman gets in the mix. It’s a name to remember for the next four years of Oklahoma Football.
