WR Marvin Mims

Marvin Mims is perhaps an obvious choice as a major Sooner offensive weapon. After a breakout freshman season, however, in which he led OU in receiving yards (610) and receiving touchdowns (9) and tied for the team lead in receptions (37), his production was down in 2021, largely through no fault of his own.

For some unknown reason, the junior wide receiver was not targeted as much last season as he was his freshman year. As a result, his numbers were lower than expected. He was credited with just 32 catches for 705 yards, and five touchdowns.

Expect that to change this season with a new quarterback, a new head coach and offensive coordinator. Mims is a team leader and the Sooners biggest threat on deep balls. He has good hands, great speed and is a home-run threat every time he touches the ball.

Others are recognizing Mims’ talent and expectation level as well. The Dallas, Texas, native is a preseason candidate on three 2022 national award watchlists: Biletnikoff Award, Paul Hornung Award and the Wuerffel Trophy. The Biletnikoff Award recognizes the most outstanding receiver in college football, the Hornung Award honors the most versatile player in the college game, and the Wuerffel Trophy goes to the player considered to have the best performance both on and off the field.
