If you are a countdown fanatic as well as a “can’t wait” type when it comes to Oklahoma football, you’ll be happy to know it is just 31 days before the new-look Sooners tee it up and kick off the 2022 college season.

Immediately after the College Football Playoff championship game, we immediately begin seeing “way-too-early” forecasts for the next season.

We’re now at the time on the calendar when college football fall practice sessions get underway in preparation for the start of a new season. It’s also when pundits and sports talk show hosts begin filling the summer void with conference projections, Heisman and national award candidates and, of course, national top-25 lists.

We have been tracking the preseason ranking process, specifically as it relates to Oklahoma’s positioning and other Big 12 teams, as the preseason rankings come out in the various preview publications, in social media and from other national news sources. The biggest dominoes yet to fall in that regard are the AP and Coaches Poll top-25 preseason rankings as well as the annual preseason rankings put out by Sports Illustrated.

We began this 2022 tracking process over a month ago. Here is the latest update, which now includes the preseason top-25 rankings put out by the editors of the 2022 College Football America Yearbook.

The 2022 College Football America Yearbook likes the outlook for Oklahoma football coming into the new season but isn’t that excited about all the hype around the Sooners biggest rival, the Texas Longhorns.

The annual edition of the College Football America Yearbook ranks the Sooners No. 6 in its Preseason Top-30 rankings. CFB. The publication also picks Oklahoma to win the Big 12.

That’s good news for Sooner fans. Even better news is that the editors of CFB America Yearbook don’t rank Texas in its preseason top 30 and pick the Longhorns to finish fourth in the Big 12 standings.

Here are the 2022 college football preseason rankings we have picked up so far:
