Oklahoma football: Anton Harrison named to Outland Trophy Watchlist
There are high expectations in Norman for the Oklahoma football offensive line heading into the 2022 season.
Sure, that is not exactly any different than any other year, but the Sooners stand to potentially feature the best tackle duo in the country with expected starters Anton Harrison and Wanya Morris. The committee of the Outland Trophy agrees as they have named Harrison on their pre-season watch list. The award is given to the best interior lineman in the country.
Jamal Brown is the last Sooner to win the Outland Trophy, and if Harrison were able to hoist the prize would be the sixth winner in Oklahoma history. Prize or not Anton Harrison has been tagged as a difference maker for the Sooners and a first-round pick according to multiple draft services. Harrison has been someone inconsistent over his time so far with Oklahoma, but with big expectations, the Sooners will finally need for him to take that final leap.
Coach Bill Bedenbaugh and his desire to stay at Oklahoma has truly led the way to keep the Sooner’s upfront talent in town, and confident they can take the next step. Harrison shared his thoughts on Bedenbaugh sticking around.
"“It was big,” said left tackle Anton Harrison. “I felt like him staying really showed how much he cares about us and about Oklahoma. That drove me. Him staying drives me more every day to do my best and grow into the player I know I can be.”"
With the combined efforts of Bedenbaugh, Jerry Schmidt, and of course Harrison himself this should be a career year for the talented left tackle. Could he possibly win the coveted Outland Trophy? Only his play on the field will tell the tale.
