No. 4 – – Steve Owens

Steve Owens was the second Sooner running back to win the Heisman Trophy, doing so in 1969. He ranks fifth in all-time rushing yards at Oklahoma with 4,041. Owens had an majestic career with 21 100-yard rushing performances, including 57 total touchdowns, which leads all Sooner running backs.

During his Heisman campaign, Owens carried the load for the Sooners offense. The blue-collar tailback finished the 1969 season with 1,523 yards, while scoring 23 touchdowns. Owens posted two 200-yard performances and led a very young, unexperienced Sooners team to a 6-4 record. The effort from Owens in 1969 was undoubtedly good enough to win the Heisman Trophy.

Owens was drafted in the first round, 19th overall, by the Lions in 1970. He captured two All-Pro Selections, in 1971 and 1972. After the NFL, Owens was elected in the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
