Oklahoma football: Ranking the Top-7 Sooner RBs of all-time

No. 5 — Greg Pruitt

Greg Pruitt was a two-time All-American during his time at Oklahoma. Pruitt ranks 11th in career rushing yards at OU with 3,122, along with 38 touchdowns from 1970-1972. The Houston, Texas, product had 13 games of 100-plus rushing yards over his three OU seasons.

Before Samaje Perine broke the NCAA single-game rushing record in 2014, Pruitt held the record with 294 yards vs Kansas State in 1971. Pruitt, who was projected to play wide receiver at OU, turned himself into an elite running  back in the Wishbone offense. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1971 and second in the Heisman Trophy voting the following year.

Pruitt played nine seasons for the NFL Cleveland Browns and won Super Bowl XVIII with the Raiders. He was a five- time Pro Bowler in the NFL.

Pruitt was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
