Oklahoma football: Sooners get commitment from 2023 O-lineman
By Chip Rouse
It didn’t take long for 2023 offensive line prospect Heath Ozaeta to decide where he wanted to play college football once he received a scholarship offer from the Oklahoma football program.
Ozaeta, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 296-pound O-lineman from Washington state, received an offer from the Sooners on June 22. Five days later he committed to Oklahoma, the second offensive line commitment for offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh in the OU 2023 class.
The three-star offensive line prospect is rated as the No. 45 player at his position and the eighth-ranked recruit from the state of Washington, according to the 247Sports Player Composite. Ozaeta chose Oklahoma over offers from such programs as UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Stanford, Colorado, Arizona State in the Pac-12, as well as Cincinnati and Nebraska in the Midwestern part of the country.
Ozaeta committed to the Sooners without even taking a visit to Norman. He becomes the eighth member of the OU 2023 class, which is expected to pick up a lot more steam as we get into July.
Ozaeta joins fellow offensive line commit Joshua Bates as well as four-star quarterback Jackson Arnold, running back Kalib Hicks, wide receiver Keyon Brown, safeties Erik McCarty and Kaleb Spencer and two-way player Kade McIntyre.
Oklahoma is one of the final considerations for a number of top-rated targets, including four-star WR Anthony Evans from Converse, Texas, and another elite prospect out of the Lone Star state in four-star LB Samuel Omosigho, who is expected to announce his verbal commitment on Thursday.
The Sooners have some ground to pick up in the coming months. OU currently ranks 37th in the 247Sports 2023 team rankings and 41st in the Rivals 2023 class rankings.
