Oklahoma football: The Top-10 teams in Sooner gridiron history
By Aaron Gelvin
No. 4 — 2000 Oklahoma Sooners team
2000
Record: 13-0 overall (8-0 Big 12) National Champions
Head Coach: Bob Stoops
Now we arrive at the unbeaten champs to open the 21st century. In Bob Stoops’ second year as the head man in Norman, Oklahoma shocked the college football world by rolling to a perfect record and a BCS National Championship.
This team knew how to win dominantly and knew how to win in close games. They could get their nose dirty and win ugly, or they could look great beating whoever was on their schedule. The 2000 Sooners were littered with star power such as Josh Heupel, Rocky Calmus, Torrance Marshall, Quentin Griffin and Roy Williams, just to name a few.
In the month of October alone, the 2000 Sooners beat Texas by 49 points, knocked off No. 2 Kansas State in Manhattan by 10 points and beat No. 1 Nebraska, 31-14, in Norman. They would go on to win close battles with Texas A&M and Kansas State (again) before winning the national championship game over the Florida State Seminoles by a score of 13-2 in the Orange Bowl.
