Fourteen new players have joined the Oklahoma football program through the transfer portal this offseason. That could be the most of any team in a Power Five conference.

One of the latest additions is quarterback prospect General Booty, who is transferring from Tyler (Texas) Junior College. It’s a name that seems more than suited for the person tasked with arguably the most important position on the field.

The young quarterback prospect comes from a family with a prominent football lineage. His father, Abram, was a former LSU receiver. Reportedly, Abram decided on his son’s name based on his fascination with the military. The young Booty’s uncle was a quarterback at LSU and played baseball in the major leagues. Another uncle played quarterback at USC when Pete Carroll was the head coach of the Trojans.

Booty was not heavily recruited out of high school, partially because he attended four different high schools (two in Texas and two in California) because of relocations by his family.

Last season at Tyler Junior College, Booty passed for 3,115 yards and 25 touchdowns, which ranked second in the nation at the JUCO level. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Dillon Gabriel, who previously was the starting quarterback at UCF, transferred to OU earlier this year and has been designated by new Sooner offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby as the Sooner starting quarterback, replacing Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler, both of whom transferred following the departure of former Sooner head coach Lincoln Riley.

The Sooners also signed four-star prospect Nick Evers as part of its 2022 recruiting class. In addition to Booty, OU also recently received a commitment from former Pittsburgh quarterback Davis Beville.

Also in the Oklahoma quarterback room for next season are roster carryovers Michah Bowens, who transferred to OU from Penn State before the 2021 season, and sophomore walk-on Ralph Rucker.
