For the seventh time in her record-setting Oklahoma softball career, Jocelyn Alo has been awarded Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
Alo played a key role in Oklahoma’s three-game sweep of its Bedlam series with in-state rival Oklahoma State, which also clinched the Sooners’ 10th consecutive regular-season Big 12 championship. This is the third time this season she has been awarded the Big 12’s top weekly honor.
The NCAA career leader in home runs, Alo slugged a dramatic grand slam home run in the fifth inning of the Bedlam series finale, allowing Oklahoma to overcome a 2-1 deficit and take a commanding 5-2 lead. The home run was the 112th of Alo’s sensational collegiate career and her nation-best 24th of the season. The grand slam was the fourth of her career and her second this season.
Alo’s weekend of work in the Oklahoma State series included a .444 batting average with one home run, six RBI and four runs scored. She also drew a pair of walks, had a .545 on-base percentage and a .778 slugging percentage in the series.
The reigning USA Softball and Big 12 Player of the Year will be participating in her fifth Big 12 Championship this weekend. The Sooners have never lost a Big 12 Championship while Alo has been at OU.
Eight different Oklahoma players have received Big 12 Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
The Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season is Hailey Dolcini of Texas. Dolcini was the pitcher of record in handing the Sooners their only loss of the season so far. The Texas ace pitched the Longhorns to a complete-game, 4-2 victory over OU on April 16. She held the potent Sooner offense to just two hits in the game.
