Oklahoma baseball: Sooners rally late again for 8-7 win over Oklahoma State
By Chip Rouse
For the second time in a little more than a week, the Oklahoma baseball team took down in-state rival Oklahoma State with a rally in the final inning to pull out an 8-7 victory on Friday in the opening game of a three-game Bedlam series.
Trailing 7-6 to open the ninth inning at O’Brate Stadium in Stillwater, OU’s Blake Robertson doubled down the left field line scoring Peyton Graham with the tying run, and with two out, Sebastian Orduno singled to center driving in Kendall Pettis, running for Robertson, with the winning run.
Orduno drew the bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth that beat Oklahoma State 7-6 in a midweek game in Tulsa 10 days ago.
Robertson had three hits in the game and drove in three of the Oklahoma runs. In an interesting twist, the redshirt sophomore Sooner first baseman transferred to OU after a season at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas, but began his collegiate career at Oklahoma State. He is five for nine with four RBI in two games against his old team and helped lead the Sooners to a couple of wins.

Jake Bennett started on the mound for OU and went the first five innings, allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out nine Cowboy hitters and walking one. Campbell Carter picked up the win, his first of the season, setting down the side in order over two innings of relief. Michael Trevin got the save, closing out the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Oklahoma improved to 18-10 on the season and 4-3 in the Big 12 No. 6/4-ranked Oklahoma State dropped to 21-9 and suffered its second loss in conference play against five wins.
These same two teams will play again at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday night’s game will be televised on ESPNU.
