Wide Receivers

Marvin Mims

The most critical returner for assitant coach Cale Gundy’s wide-receiver group, is Frisco, Texas, native Marvin Mims. A former Freshmen All-American in 2020, Mims is one of the most dangerous, deep targets in all of college football. In 2021, he had 32 receptions for 705 yards and found the end zone five times for the Sooners.

“Marvelous” Mims averaged 22 yards a reception for the Sooners in 2021, which ranked 4th among all Football Bowl Subdivision teams. Mims finished 2021 as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection in the Big 12, but this season could be historic for Mims.

"“Obviously, feel very good with Marvin Mims, you know, the offense that he has had,” Gundy said to reporters about Mims. “He’s really taken huge steps in being more of a vocal guy. Probably with you guys, you’ve seen he’s kind of calm and always has that smile on his face. But he has really taken big steps in being a leader in this offense.”"

Theo Wease

Redshirt junior Theo Wease suffered a foot injury that sidelined him for the whole 2021 season. The years before that, however, Wease had a phenomenal sophomore season with 37 catches for 530 yards and four touchdowns.

Wease was a five-star recruit in OU’s 2019 class. and we’ve seen how menacing he can be in the passing game. The Allen, Texas, native will be a receiver to keep an eye on in Jeff Lebby’s offensive system, and hopefully he will enjoy a breakout 2022 season..

"“Theo Wease, it’s good to see him back and see him running around and being full speed. A guy that’s going into this fourth season. Expect big things out of him,” Gundy said."
