Oklahoma football: Former TCU offensive lineman switches to Sooners

Oklahoma football head coach Brent Venables has filled another immediate need with the help of the transfer portal.
Former TCU offensive tackle Tyler Guyton committed to Oklahoma on Tuesday. The 6-foot, 7-inch 312-pound Guyton is the second offensive lineman the Sooners have acquired this offseason via the transfer route and the 10th player to join OU via transfer since Venables became the new Oklahoma head coach.
Guyton entered the transfer portal on Jan. 11 and paid a recruiting visit to OU on Jan. 15. He originally committed to TCU as a defensive lineman. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at Oklahoma.
In December former California offensive lineman McKade Mettauer announced his transfer to Oklahoma. The addition of these two experienced O-lineman will help reinforce the Sooners at that position next season following the loss of Marquis Hayes and Tyrese Robinson, both of whom have declared for the NFL Draft.
Both Guyton and Mettauer are projected starters at OU for next season. Guyton will likely land at right tackle, with the returning Anton Harrison manning the left tackle spot.
Guyton, from Manor, Texas, a norther suburb of the Austin area, reportedly has always wanted to play for Oklahoma. He was rated a three-star prospect coming out of high school, according to 247Sports. He redshirted his freshman season at TCU in 2020 and played in eight games as a sophomore this past season. Against OU in the 2021 season, he started the game at H-back, and he caught a touchdown pass last season against Iowa State.
