By Chip Rouse
The men aren’t the only Oklahoma basketball team taking down top-25 opponents this season.
The Lady Sooners, ranked No. 23 in the country this week in the Associated Press Top-25 rankings, turned a dominant fourth-quarter performance into an 83-77 upset of 14th-ranked Baylor on Wednesday at Lloyd Noble Center. It was OU’s third win over a ranked team this season and the Sooners first win over perennial women’s power Baylor since 2015.
Down by as many as 10 points three different times in the contest, Oklahoma outscored Baylor 31-18 over the final 13 minutes to seal the victory and record its 14th win of the season against just two defeats.
Four of the Sooners’ 14 wins this season have come when trailing in the game by double digits.
Sophomore Skylar Vann led the way for the Lady Sooners with a team-high 22 points. In addition, she contributed seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks in a complete-game performance. Senior Madi Williams added 18 points.
OU Senior Taylor Robertson made all five of her three-point shots and, in the process, set a new Big 12 record for career three-pointers, passing Kansas State’s Laurie Koehn, who made 392 three-balls from 2001 to 2005.
As a team, the Sooners shot 46 percent for the game, but was even hotter from long range, connecting on 14 of 27 treys for 52 percent.
Oklahoma ranks second in the nation in assists, and they recorded an assist on 23 of their 28 made field goals on Wednesday night against Baylor.
The game’s high scorer was NaLyssa Smith of Baylor with 30 points.
The Lady Sooners are home again this weekend to entertain TCU, while the Sooner men are in Ft. Worth to face the Horned Frogs.
