The more physical team won

The physicality from the Baylor secondary and defensive line played a huge role in the win. It’s not the first time the Sooners have shown less physicality and determination than their opponent this season. There weren’t many open receivers for the Sooners, and it made Caleb Williams flustered.

Baylor was bringing the force with every tackle and hit, and it simply put a Sooners’ team in shock. Coming off an offensive display against Texas Tech, it was the complete opposite in Waco.

Once again, the defensive line failed to get any pressure on Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon, who looked well composed in the pocket. It’s been the story all year long for a Sooners front seven, who was the most talked group in the preseason and believed to be the strength of an improved Oklahoma defense.

Outside of linebacker Brian Asamoah, who was credited with a team-high 10 tackles, there was no defensive player who stood out for the Sooners. On a third and 12 from the Baylor 32-yard line and seven minutes remaining in the game, the Sooners appeared to have Baylor stopped and get the ball back for the OU offense, but Bears’ running back Abram Smith went straight up the gut and, aided by a push by what seemed like the entire Baylor offensive unit. fought his way through what ended up as a 15-yard gain and a new set of downs for Baylor.

This simply told the story of the game. Six plays later Bohanon ran 14 yards for a touchdown to make the score 24-7.

There was simply no aggression and attitude for a Sooners’ team that should be annoyed after being ranked 8th in the College Football Playoff rankings.
