The Baylor Bears had a better game plan
In the last four weeks, Caleb Williams has brought a new motor to this Sooners offense, but the Bears well-prepared and well-coached defense made Williams extremely uncomfortable and look like a true freshman on Saturday. From the get-go, there was no rhythm for an Oklahoma offense that’s used to putting up yards and points since the quarterback change.
The deep throws and catches from Williams to Mims were non-existent in Waco. Whether it was dropping linebackers, or bringing outside pressure, the Bears gave the Sooners fits all day long.
The Baylor offense was able to establish a running game, which they desperately needed to do. Converted linebacker Abram Smith had 20 carries for 148 yards and averaged 7.4 yards per rush. The most surprising point of the Baylor attack came from quarterback Gerry Bohanon, who complemented Smith with 107 rushing yards of his own.
There was no answer by the Sooners defensive front, who has simply been bullied most of the year. The Bears were coming off a miserable loss to TCU, where Oklahoma transfer Chandler Morris tore them apart with 461 yards through the air. It looked like a completely different Baylor group against the Sooners.
