The Oklahoma football win over Texas Tech on Halloween eve was scary good and the Sooners best win of the 2021 season, the team’s ninth victory out of nine games played.
There was so much to like about the Sooners’ dominant win over the Red Raiders it is easy to lose count because it was almost the polar opposite of what we’ve seen from OU for most of the season. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it made for a perfect transition into a much-needed bye week and extended the Sooners’ perfect 9-0 record for the 2021 season.
If history is any indicator, Oklahoma is getting ready to play its best ball of the season, heading into the championship month of November.
Here’s something that should catch the attention of the Sooners three remaining regular-season opponents: Oklahoma has not lost a game in the month of November since Lincoln Riley has been in Norman, Oklahoma. OU is 24-0 in November dating back to the 2014 season and 14-0 with Riley as head coach. Six of those 14 November wins with Riley as Sooner head coach were over ranked Big 12 teams.
For the eight Oklahoma scoring possessions out of nine total on Saturday, here are eight numbers that help tell the story of the Sooners 52-21 win over Texas Tech:
2.0 — Oklahoma’s season average for punts in a game. The Sooners punted just once on Saturday.
7 — Touchdown passes by Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler combined on Saturday. Williams’ six TD passes tied a single-game Oklahoma freshman record.
9.8 — Season-high yards per play averaged by the Oklahoma offense in the win over Texas Tech.
12 — A dozen Sooners caught at least one pass in the Texas Tech game. Eight of them made at least two catches.
28 — Oklahoma scored 28 first-half points in Saturday’s game. The last time the Sooners scored that may points in the first half this season was in Week 1 against Tulane.
50 — OU’s Gabe Brkic kicked a 53-yard field goal in the third quarter on Saturday. It was his fifth field goal of 50 yards or longer this season. No other kicker in the country has more than three at that distance this season.
67 — One of Marvin Mims’ four receptions against Texas Tech went for a 67-yard touchdown, a career long for Mims and the Sooners longest offensive play this season.
100 — Two Oklahoma receivers (Marvin Mims and Mario Williams) registered at least 100 receiving yards in the win over Texas Tech. Williams had five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown; Mims made four catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
