Oklahoma football: Sooner offense explodes in 52-21 blowout over Texas Tech

Caleb Williams threw six touchdown passes and the Sooner defense delivered three takeaways in a 52-21 Oklahoma football victory over Texas Tech.
The fourth-ranked Sooners ran their season record to 9-0 and extended the nation’s longest active win streak to 17 games in what easily was their most complete performance against the eight FBS teams they’ve faced this season.
With Williams accounting for 405 of Oklahoma’s 541 yards of total offense, the Sooners’ took control of this game early and kept the pedal down on the throttle for a full four quarters, something that has been missing from Lincoln Riley’s team for most of the season.
It was Oklahoma’s 10th consecutive win over Texas Tech.
The score was tied 7-7 with 2:31 left in the first quarter. On the ensuing Oklahoma possession, Marvin Mims caught a pass from Williams and raced 67 yards for a touchdown. The Sooners never trailed after that, opening up a 28-7 halftime lead.
The Sooners widened their advantage to 38-7 midway through the third quarter. OU’s biggest lead in the game was 52-14 after Spencer Rattler connected with Brian Darby on a 42-yard touchdown pass with a little over six minutes to go in the game
Williams completed 23 of 30 passes (76.6 percent) for 402 yards through air in leading the Sooner offense on eight scoring drives on nine possessions (not counting the final OU possession, when the Sooners essentially ran out the clock.
The six touchdown passes by the talented Sooner freshman tied Landry Jones for the most touchdown passes by an OU freshman in a single season.
Twelve different Oklahoma receivers caught passes in the game and six different receivers caught touchdown passes. Sophomore Marvin Mims and true freshman Mario Williams both exceeded 100 receiving yards and combined for nine catches and three TD receptions,
The Sooners had a tough day running the football, producing just 72 yards on the ground, and most of that came late when the game had been long decided.
The OU defense, which had several injured starters back for this game, did a good job preventing big plays and held Texas Tech to just 4 of 13 on third-down plays. The Red Raiders came into the game ranked 28th in the country in third-down conversions with a 46-percent success rate. Against OU, Tech’s third-down success rate was just 31 percent.
Texas Tech wide-receiver Erik Ezukanma was a big target in the Red Raider pass attack, catching eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. The Red Raiders gained 373 yards of total offense (269 passing and 104 rushing)
Oklahoma (9-0, 6-0) has a bye next week before going to Baylor on Nov. 13 in what could be a preview of the Big 12 championship game.
