The Oklahoma football team will be wearing the “Rough Rider” alternate uniforms for the game with Kansas on Saturday.
The Sooners are 9-2 when wearing the “Rough Rider” alternate uniforms since they were introduced in 2014. It will be the second time the Sooners have the alternate OU uniform vs. Kansas. The last time they wore the alternate uniforms against Kansas was a 62-7 Oklahoma win.
The 62-7 win over the Jayhawks in 2015 was Baker Mayfield’s first season playing for the Sooners and also the first season for then-offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. This will be the first time, though, the Sooners have worn the cream-crimson combo vs. Kansas.
OU is 8-0 when wearing the cream jerseys. The only two losses came against Baylor in 2014, and vs. Iowa State in 2017. The last time OU wore the cream jersey and crimson pants? At West Virginia in 2018. Kyler Murray put on a show for the Sooners, leading them to a 59-56 win, which was one of the most exciting games of the year. That game had everything you wished for: points, turnovers, and exciting plays down the stretch.
Gabe Brkic stole the show in the hype video, which revealed the Sooners’ uniform choice for the road game at Kansas. He was featured in some iconic photos with the Sooner Schooner, and even a cowboy hat. Brkic has been automatic for the Sooners this year. He is 16 for 19 on field goals and 30 for 30 on extra points.
Brkic has made 16 of 19 field-goal attempts this season, including four of five from 50 yards or longer. The outstanding kicker for the Sooners unveiled the jersey combination for this weekend.
The Sooners haven’t been beaten in the cream jersey Rough Rider alternates, and look to keep it that way this weekend at Kansas. There shouldn’t be any “upset tensions” in Lawrence. The Kansas Jayhawks haven’t beaten the Sooners since 1997.
