Oklahoma football: Numbers to know ahead of OU-K-State kickoff
By Chip Rouse
On Saturday, in the place called the Little Apple, the Oklahoma football team plays its first road game as a lame duck member of the Big 12 Conference.
Moreover, it is a game with a team, Kansas State, that has beaten the Sooners in each of the last two seasons and in four of the last nine. The Sooners actually have a better record on the road than at home in recent seasons. Oklahoma has won 26 of its last 28 true road games.
This weekend in Manhattan, Kansas, however, OU will not only get its first road test of the 2021 season after four straight home contests, but in a stadium with one of the most passionate fan bases in the Big 12 and sure to give the visiting Sooners an earful about leaving the Big 12.
More than half of the Oklahoma roster have never played a college road game in front of a full stadium.
Even though rain is expected throughout the game, don’t expect that to dampen the support of K-State fans as the Wildcats attempt to become the only team to post three consecutive wins over Oklahoma since Texas pulled off the trifecta in 1997-99.
Here are some other numbers fans need to know ahead of the Oklahoma-Kansas State kickoff:
3-0 — Kansas State’s record this season when the Wildcats score first.
8 — Oklahoma is tied for eighth in the country with five fumble recoveries through the first four games in 2021.
