Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles QB

Former Sooner via Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts put the Philadelphia Eagles under his wing and lead them to a season-opening win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

With mixed expectations based on his up-and-down performances last year, this was a game that showed Hurts really can be a productive and trusted starting NFL quarterback.

In completing 27 of 35 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions, Hurts played a clean and impressive game. Hurts also spread the ball around, completing two or more passes to seven different receivers. Each of his three touchdown passes was to a different receiver.

The former Heisman finalist also showed his ability with his legs, gaining 62 yards on the ground on seven carries.

The connection to former Alabama teammate Devonta Smith also appears to be a budding connection between two extremely talented players. Hurts to Smith could be a quarterback-receiver combo for years to come.

Hurts looked calm and collected, making great reads, and showed solid accuracy, doing everything you need from your starting quarterback.

Granted, this was against the Falcons, who have a porous defense that was waiting to be exposed. However, winning the games you are supposed to win is part of being a great quarterback in this league.

Next week, Hurts has a test against a solid San Francisco 49ers defense with a good pass rush. .

If Hurts plays anything like he did against Atlanta, Philly should be just fine, but time will tell if he proves himself against a team like San Francisco.
