Adrian Peterson
One former Sooner who may have the best chance of becoming the next Oklahoma player to make it into the Hall of Fame is Adrian Peterson.
Peterson ranks fourth on the Oklahoma career rushing list with 4,045 yards and 41 touchdowns over three seasons (2004-06. As a freshman, he rushed for 1,925 yards and set several NCAA records in the process. That same 2004 season, he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting to Matt Leinart of USC.
He was drafted seventh overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2007 NFL Draft. Peterson literally hit the ground running his rookie NFL season. He set an NFL record rushing for 296 yards in a single game on his way to 1,341 for the season.
This will be Peterson’s 15th season in the NFL. With 14,820 career rushing yards, the former Oklahoma superstar ranks fifth all-time in NFL history. The future NFL Hall of Famer has led the NFL three times in rushing and in 2012 was named both NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.
