Oklahoma basketball: Porter Moser fills out Sooner coaching staff
By Chip Rouse
Five more members of the men’s Oklahoma basketball coaching staff, three of them all-new were announced Friday and will be joining new head coach Porter Moser.
A week ago Moser announced that K.T. Turner will be assistant head coach. Turner will be joined by assistant coach Emanuel Dildy, Matt Gordon as assistant to the head coach and director of scouting and Clayton Custer, director of video operations and player development.
Mike Shepherd and Bryce Daub will remain on the staff in their existing positions. Next season will be Shepherd’s 11th as director of basketball operations, and Daub continues as director of strength and performance, a role he has held for six seasons.
Turner joins the staff after one season as an assistant at Texas and seven previous to that at SMU, where he was an assistant under Tim Jankovich and legendary head coach Larry Brown for five seasons before that.
Dildy served on Moser’s coaching staff at Loyola Chicago from 2013-16 and had a big hand in the recruiting and player development for that school’s 2018 Final Four team. Dildy spent the previous three seasons also in the Chicago area as an assistant at Northwestern. He coaching experience also includes previous stops at Valparaiso, Missouri and Eastern Illinois.
Moser describes Turner and Dildy as “cultural fits and all-around great coaches,” in a press release issued by the OU athletic department. “They are the whole package when it comes to on-the-floor coaching, building relationships and high-level recruiting.”
Gordon and Custer were both of Moser’s staff at Loyola. Gordon has been by Moser’s side for 17 seasons. Custer was one of the stars on Loyola’s Final Four team and will perform similar duties to what he had on the staff at Loyola.
Moser still has one additional assistant position to fill.
