Oklahoma basketball: Bedlam basketball quick hitters

The Oklahoma basketball series with Oklahoma State dates back 114 years to 1908.

On Monday night in Stillwater, before a national television audience, as part of ESPN’s “Big Monday” broadcast, the Sooners and Cowboys will face each other for the 242nd time and the second time in three days.

Oklahoma owns a 140-101 record in the all-time series between the two in-state rivals, but Oklahoma State has prevailed the majority of the time the game has been played in Stillwater with a 64-47 all-time record.

Oklahoma State upset the Sooners on the road in Norman in overtime on Saturday, and on Monday night Oklahoma will be looking for a split in this year’s regular-season series and has won four of the last seven games played at OSU’s Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Since 2006, Oklahoma has swept the season basketball series with Oklahoma State seven times. That will not happen this season, but the Cowboys have the opportunity to record their second season sweep during that time with a win Monday night.

  • Oklahoma has won 13 of the last 20 games played against Oklahoma State.
  • The Sooners 140 wins in the all-time Bedlam series is their most against any opponent.
  • Before May 15, 1957, Oklahoma State was known as Oklahoma A&M.
  • Oklahoma has won at least one game against Oklahoma State every season since 2005.
  • Oklahoma State has won two national championships in basketball (1945 and 1946) and 19 regular-season conference championships, the most recent one in 2004.
  • Oklahoma has not won a national championship in men’s basketball, but has finished as the national runner-up twice (1947, 1988). The Sooners have won 14 regular-season conference championships, the most recent one in 2005.
  • The longest winning streak by either team in the Bedlam series was 14 by Oklahoma between 1917 and 1921. The longest Oklahoma losing streak to Oklahoma State was eight games from 1943-47.
  • Freshman Cade Cunningham of Oklahoma State scored a career-high 40 points in the Cowboys’ 94-90 overtime win on Saturday. Three years ago, Oklahoma freshman sensation Trae Young scored 48 in a losing effort at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys won that game 83-81 in overtime.
