Oklahoma basketball game with Texas now postponed
By Chip Rouse
If you’re a serious Oklahoma basketball fan and haven’t heard, the on-and-off game with Texas has been postponed to a later date.
As if navigating through and around a pandemic wasn’t enough to make things difficult this college basketball season, now we have dangerously cold winter weather that is causing havoc with schedules.
Dangerously cold and icy conditions in Oklahoma and Texas forced postponement of the Oklahoma-Texas game from Tuesday night to Wednesday then to Thursday before being postponed indefinitely.
The 4th-ranked Sooners have been reasonably fortunate this extraordinary season, missing just one game because of COVID-19 issues. The Feb. 10 game between OU and Baylor was postponed and has not yet been rescheduled. And that was due to COVID concerns in the Baylor program, which has been hit as hard as any team in the country.
The nation’s No. 2 team has missed seven games because of COVID protocols. The Bears’ last played in Feb. 2, beating Texas 83-69 in Austin. Their last home game was Jan. 30 against Auburn in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. All three Baylor games last week were postponed, as were the three games scheduled this week.
It will be interesting to see how all of that gets sorted out schedule-wise with just a couple of weeks remaining in the regular season.
The Sooners have missed just one game for COVID reasons, but they have been without several players for several games because of virus protocols and contact tracing. Brady Manek and Jalen Hill missed the Kansas and TCU games on Jan. 9 and 12, and Austin Reaves was forced to sit out two games (Alabama on Jan. 30 and Texas Tech on Feb. 1) because of contact tracing.
Senior guard Alondes Williams missed three games due to COVID (Alabama, Texas Tech and Iowa State). Last Saturday’s game at West Virginia was his first game back, and he was limited to just six minutes of action.
