When the Oklahoma football team takes the field at AT&T Stadium on Wednesday night for the Cotton Bowl Classic it should feel very familiar.

The Sooners defeated Iowa State on that same surface less than two weeks ago for the Big 12 championship.

Oklahoma has played in all six of the New Year’s Six bowls, but has made only two previous appearances in the postseason Cotton Bowl game despite the fact that the game is played just two and a half hours south of the OU campus.

Since 2010, the Cotton Bowl Classic has been hosted at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, an indoor facility that serves as the home of the NFL Dallas Cowboys. Although the Sooners have played seven times at AT&T Stadium since it opened in 2009, they’ve only played in one postseason Cotton Bowl game in that modern new venue.

Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma 41-13 in the 2013 Cotton Bowl Classic.
