Oklahoma football: Sooners remain at No. 18 in AP poll
By Chip Rouse
No game over the weekend and no movement for Oklahoma football in the Associated Press Top 25.
The Sooners (5-2, 4-2) remain at No. 18 in the AP media poll, but they did move up a spot, to No. 17, in the Coaches Poll. That sets up next Saturday’s Bedlam showdown between OU and Oklahoma State. The Cowboys (5-1, 4-1) are ranked 14th in both polls.
Oklahoma State is only the second ranked team Oklahoma has faced this season at the time the game was played (the Sooners beat No. 22 Texas on Oct. 10). And Saturday’s game at OU will be the first time in the 2020 season that both the Sooners and their opponent have been ranked.
This past weekend featured a limited schedule involving top 25 teams because of scheduling as well as COVID postponements and cancellations. There was no movement among the top eight teams in the AP pol and the top 10 in the Coaches Poll.
Alabama continues to hold down the No. 1 spot followed by Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson. Texas A&M and Florida flip flop in the No. 5 and 6 spots. A&M in No. 5 in the AP poll and Florida is the No. 5 team in the Coaches Poll.
Again this week, four Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 25. Besides Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, Iowa State is No. 17 in the AP poll (No. 16 in the Coaches Poll), and Texas ranks 22nd in the AP (No. 23 in the Coaches Poll).
Three teams each from the SEC, ACC and Big Ten are ranked in the top 10 of the AP Top 25. The SEC leads all conferences with five ranked teams. The Big 12, Big Ten and ACC each have four.
