Depite major emphasis by defensive coordinator Alex Grinch to create more turnovers, which lead to defensive stops that turn the ball back over to the high-output Oklahoma offense, the Sooners have been unable to deliver on this goal. Oklahoma has had just 11 takeaways in each of the last two seasons, which ranks among the worst in college football among FBS teams.

The Sooners have just six takeaways this season, and half of those came in one game (Texas).

On the other side of the coin, Oklahoma has committed nine turnovers (six interceptions and three lost fumbles) to go with the six takeaways. That leaves them with a turnover margin of minus-three through five games, which ranks 68th out of 99 FBS teams.
