Other than a costly fourth-quarter kickoff return for a touchdown at Iowa State that likely cost the Sooners that game, Oklahoma’s kick coverage has been good this season.

After going 17 for 17 a year ago in field-goal tries, Gabe Brkic is just 8 of 11 so far this season, including a 31-yard attempt in the third overtime against Texas that would have won the game and avoided a 4th overtime.

The Sooner special teams blocked two kicks in the Texas game, one on a Longhorn punt that led to an Oklahoma touchdown and on a field-goal try in the third overtime session.

Sophomore punter Reeves Mundschau is last in the Big 12, averaging just 38.4 yards per punt. The good news is Oklahoma doesn’t need to punt that often.

Marvin Mins has been a pleasant surprise as a newcomer on kick returns. In the TCU game, he returned a punt 38 yards that led to a Sooner touchdown.
