Oklahoma football: Sooners move back into Top-25 rankings
By Chip Rouse
The Sooners were missing for three weeks, but now Oklahoma football is back among the nation’s top-25 teams.
Oklahoma is ranked 24th this week in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.
The Sooners (3-2) were ranked as high as No. 3 in both polls to start the season, but dropped to 18th in the AP poll (16th in the Coaches Poll) after losing at home to Kansas State on Sept. 26. The following week Oklahoma fell at Iowa State and dropped out of both national polls.
Prior to the Oct. 3 loss at Iowa State, the Sooners had been ranked in 64 consecutive AP polls.
The Sooners are one of four Big 12 teams this week in the top-25 rankings. Oklahoma State is the highest ranked team out of the Big 12 at No. 6 in both the AP and Coaches polls. Kansas State is 16th in both polls and Iowa State, which lost at Oklahoma State on Saturday, is 23rd, according to the AP voters, and 22nd in the Coaches Poll.
The top eight teams are the same this week in both national polls. Clemson and Alabama remain one and two, respectively, followed by Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati and Texas A&M.
Four SEC teams are ranked in the top 10 in the AP poll, but the Big 10 leads all Power Five Conferences with five teams ranked in the top 25. The SEC, Big 12 and ACC all have four teams in the top 25.
Oklahoma has one more ranked team on its schedule. The Sooners will host No, 6 Oklahoma State in Bedlam on Nov. 21 in Norman.
