Oklahoma football does not play a home game the entire month of October.

That in itself would be enough to tempt the fate of any football program. So, imagine then feeling good about going on the road after a tough home loss. That clearly would not be considered  normal behavior, but Oklahoma’s  road record in recent seasons is anything but normal.

The Sooners have won 24 of the last 25 true road games. That one loss occurred one year ago at Kansas State.

In the Big 12 era, which began in 1996, Oklahoma’s best road record has been at Iowa State, where the Sooners are 7-0 during that time, with a chance to make it 8-0 this Saturday. Historically, Oklahoma has played better at Iowa State, in terms of wins, than any other venue in the country. The Sooners are 37-2-1, a .938 winning percentage.

The Sooners have also fared extremely well at Kansas, where they have posted a 7-1 record since the Big 12 came into existence. OU is 13-3 at Kansas Memorial Stadium since 1980 and 34-15-4 there all-time.

Oklahoma’s third best road record in the Big 12 era is at Baylor, where the Sooners are 11-2. The two losses came is consecutive trips to Baylor(in 2011 and 2013).

The Sooners are 8-2 against Kansas State as Big 12 members, 10-3 in Stillwater against in-state rival Oklahoma State and 4-0 at West Virginia.

Oklahoma’s worst road record against current Big 12 teams is at Texas Tech, where the Sooners must go at the end of this month this season. OU is just 7-5 at Texas Tech as a member of the Big 12.

The Sooners also had difficulty at Nebraska and at Colorado, when those two schools were members of the original Big 12. Oklahoma was 1-3 as a road team against Nebraska and 1-2 in trips to Colorado during the Big 12 era.

Oklahoma and archrival Texas play every year on a neutral field, and since 1932 the Red River rivalry has been held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. During the time both schools have been members of the Big 12, Oklahoma owns a 14-10 record versus the Longhorns.

Early in the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry series, however, games were played at campus sites. That ended in 1923. The Sooners were 2-7-1 in the series when playing on the road in Austin.
