Oklahoma football: Creed Humphrey adds to preseason award honors
By Chip Rouse
A pair of Oklahoma football offensive lineman are preseason candidates for the Outland Trophy.
Center Creed Humphrey and right tackle Adrian Ealy are among 85 college players named to the 2020 watch list for the Outland Trophy. Voted on by the Football Writers Association of America, the national award honors the best interior lineman, offense or defense, in the Football Bowl Subdivision of college football.
A second-team All-American a year ago, Humphrey earlier was named to the Walter Camp and Sporting News Preseason All-America First Team. Last season’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Big 12 also was named to the 2020 Preseason All-Big 12 First Team.
The anchor of one of the best offensive lines in college football, Humphrey, a junior this season, was a finalist last season for the Rimington Trophy, which recognizes the best center in college football.
Ealy started 12 games for Oklahoma a year ago as a redshirt-sophomore.
Five former Sooners have won the Outland Trophy: Jim Weatherall in 1951, J.D. Roberts in 1953, Lee Roy Selmon in 1975, Greg Roberts in 1978 and Jammal Brown in 2004.
Humphrey and Ealy are two of six players from the Big 12 who have been named to the preseason watch list for the 2020 Outland Trophy. The other Big 12 players are offensive guard Jack Anderson of Texas Tech, offensive tackle Sam Cosmi of Texas, and defensive tackles Dante and Darius Stills of West Virginia.
Besides Humphrey and Ealy, six other Sooners have been named to national award watch lists for 2020: RB Kennedy Brooks, the Doak Walker Award; LB Caleb Kelley, the Lott IMPACT Trophy; DE Ronnie Perkins, the Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy; WR Charleston Rambo, the Biletnikoff Award; TE Austin Stogner, the John Mackey Award, and LB DaShaun White, the Butkus Award.
