Charleston Rambo is the latest Oklahoma football player to be a preseason candidate for national honors.

The redshirt-junior wide receiver is one of 55 players from around the country named to the 2020 Biletnikoff Award watch list. The annual award, named for former NFL All-Pro receiver Fred Biletnikoff, recognizes the most outstanding receiver in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The award is not just for wide receivers, but instead takes into consideration any player who catches a pass.

The Biletnikoff Award was introduced in 1994. Oklahoma has had some outstanding receivers over that time frame, but only one Sooner has won the award: DeDe Westbrook in 2016.

Rambo is OU’s leading returning receiver this season after finishing second to CeeDee Lamb last season with 43 catches for 743 yards and five touchdowns. Four of his five touchdown receptions came in the Sooners’ first five games last year.

The junior Sooner receiver had three games a year ago in which he exceeded 100 receiving yards, one of which was a five-catch, 116 yards and two-touchdown performance in the Sooners’ 48-14 win at UCLA. He caught six passes in OU’s win over TCU later in the season.

Rambo averaged 17.3 yards per catch last season and also averaged 23.7 yards on three kickoff returns.

He is one of five players from the Big 12 who were named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list for this season: Oklahoma State wide receiver Tylan Wallace, Baylor wideout Tyquan Thornton, Kansas wide receiver Andrew Parchment, and Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar, who is from Norman, Oklahoma, and went to Norman North High School.
