3. Wants to play for national championships
The record speaks for itself. Oklahoma has won seven national championships, third most among teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Sooners’ last national title was in 2000, but since then, they have played in three BCS national championship games and participated in four of the six College Football Playoffs.
Oklahoma has been a national championship contender for most of the past two decades. You can’t be a true national title contender, though, unless you win your own conference, and Oklahoma has done that in grand style. The Sooners have won 13 Big 12 championships in the 24-year history of the Big 12 Conference, including five consecutive conference crowns. No other Big 12 school has more than three conference titles.
