Oklahoma football: Creed Humphrey a Walter Camp Preseason All-American
By Chip Rouse
Oklahoma football center Creed Humphrey has been named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America First Team.
Two years ago, Humphrey was a freshman newcomer on the best offensive line in college football. Heading into the 2020 season, the redshirt junior All-American is the anchor on the Sooner offensive line that remains one of the best in the land.
The 2018 OU offensive line won the Joe Moore Award, which recognizes the best offensive line in college football
Humphrey, who is from Shawnee, Oklahoma, has started 24 of 26 games for Oklahoma, including all 14 last season. In 799 snaps last season, he did not allow a quarterback sack.
The Sooner center was named a Second-Team All-American a year ago by the Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press, Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America. He was also one of three finalists for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the best college football center, as well as an All-Big 12 First-Team selection and Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Humphrey’s excellence extends beyond the gridiron. He is also an excellent student, a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
Humphrey was a four-star prospect out of high school and a member of Oklahoma’s top-10 ranked 2017 recruiting class. He picked Oklahoma over offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and others. He was named first-team, all-state in high school by The Oklahoman newspaper.
Oklahoma is 24-4 in the two seasons Humphrey has been in Norman. The Sooners won the Big 12 championship in both seasons and appeared in back-to-back College Football Playoffs.
The Walter Camp Foundation All-America Team is the oldest of all the college football All-America teams.
