Steve Owens

Steve Owens played three seasons at Oklahoma, from 1967 to 1969. In two of those years, Owens literally carried to load for Sooner teams that uncharacteristically lost four games in back-to-back seasons.

Owens gained 869 yards in 1967 in his Sooner debut, and followed that with 1,649 and 1,523 rushing yards his junior and senior years in 1968 and 1969, respectively.

The 6-foot. 2-inch, 215-pound running back machine from Miami, Oklahoma, scored a school-record 23 rushing touchdowns his final season in 1969, the same year he was awarded the Heisman Trophy.

Owens finished his career with 4,041 rushing yards, fifth most in Sooner history. He still holds school records for career touchdowns (57), most carries in a game (55) and career (958).
